Firefly Press

(Over the past several weeks, I have been fortunate enough to acquire some new items for myself and Jen. I want to share the items with you all I thought you might like to know about, and might be of interest to you.)

You, reader, should not be surprised when I say that I love letterpress printing. I love the bite it leaves on the paper, the knowledge that the work was done by human hands - not by some digital process powered by Binary code. So, when the time came for me to order new notecards, I (of course) wanted letterpress cards. Last month, I commenced a search for a good print shop that could help me with my needs. I looked far and wide, virtually, and found some interesting shops - but nothing that was exactly what I was seeking. Then, I remembered this video I watched long ago:

Of course, I had never really paid attention to the print shop in the video, I was just amazed by two things. First, the work that this print shop made was beautiful - true to letterpress in a way all the cute-sy stuff out there is not - clearly founded around a vast knowledge of letterpress, printing, and literature of all types. Second, the owner clearly had a great passion for his work, and was largely responsible for the knowledge and fidelity I mentioned previously. So, I visited Firefly Press' home on the web, and saw more examples of the work they do, and was thrilled. What a place for a bibliophile like myself! I sent the owner, John Kristensen, an email about my need for a new notecard and waited patiently for his response.

Through several emails, I found John to be just as he seemed in the documentary - kind, friendly, thoroughly passionate and incredibly intelligent about all things printing and literary. I suppose I shouldn't be surprised - as his mother was a librarian!

All this to say the cards he and his shop created are beautiful, and I feel sure you will receive one at some point (and if you want one sooner, just ask)!
