Fall Semester, 2010

Today marks the beginning of my final semester as an MSLIS student at Syracuse. It is frankly a bit odd to say that, but it is true. I will have been in graduate school for about a year and a half, much shorter (it seems) than many of my fellow classmates. I hope this semester is a great conclusion to the degree, as I am certainly taking some interesting courses:

Books For My Final Semester As An MSLIS Student

  • IST 676 - Digital Libraries: Representation of information in digital libraries; mechanisms for retrieval; digital intermediation; sociopolitical environment for digital libraries.

  • IST 631 - Theory of Classification and Subject Representation: Classification is a fundamental human activity as is forming an abstract representation of verbal information. Theoretical basis of classification and subject representation, attempts to automate these activities.

  • IST 645 - Managing Information Systems Projects: Project management as a professional discipline in information and communication technology. Introduction to roles, activities, methods, and tools. Critical review and application of principles.

I think out of the three, the classification course sounds very interesting, as well as the digital libraries course. I know the project management course will be interesting as well. I am sure you all will hear more as I progress through the semester. Here's to a great final semester!

  3. I am so excited for you! I bet it is going to be amazing to finally be done.

Next spring is gonna be a sad semester without you. You and I have had a least one class each semester and I feel like you are a part of my sanity there. Thankfully my last semester is an elective and my internship.

  5. I have no idea what I am going to take next semester. I know I can take an elective so the world is my oyster or at least the world is my IST course. If they have one on preservation, I would prefer to take that. Honestly after the trauma that 618 is already giving me, I am hoping to take something that won't make me want to take a hot poker to my eyes.

As for my internship, I am hoping to get one at either the New York Public Library or possibly the National Archives in NYC. We will see.

  6. Hmmm, well I would also suggest the Morgan. Man, that's a cool place and I think it would be a great opportunity. Overall, though, I am envious that you have such awesome places to choose from in the City for an internship!
