These Exciting Times

I know, you can hardly believe it - post three this week! There's a lot going on with Jen and I, but I want to tell you that I am making a commitment to blog regularly again - so excuse me if the posts aren't up to what I usually write, let me get my "writing legs" back, so to speak. Jen's posts are consistently great - so that should help make up for my rustiness. I want to talk very briefly about my new job, as well as some other museum things.

First, I am thrilled with my job and the people I work with. There are some cool things happening, and I am excited to be able to share them when they are ready for you - we really do have some awesome things in store. On a broader level, it's nice to be a "real" librarian. There were several points in my studies in my time at the Carter when I felt myself becoming more and more of a professional librarian. Well, I am there now, and it feels great to be using what I learned as a teacher, as a student, and in my time at the Carter. So, if you are one of those people (you know who you are) who contributed to where I am today, I humbly thank you for all that you have done for me! I only hope I can fulfill the time and effort you have expended on my behalf.

Speaking of the Carter - if you are in the Metroplex, check out three really cool goings-on there. First, Sam Duncan the Library Director has a show in conjunction with the Botanical Research Institute of Texas titled Nature Bound: Illustrated Botanical Books. It looks incredible, and you should go check it out for the illustrations, as well as an incredible description of the evolution of color plate printing in the United States. Sam has been blogging about the installation at the N-Files, the library blog in these three posts.

Check out the special 50th anniversary installation at the Carter as well - something I had a hand in. It looks great, and it's cool to see all the stuff Jon Frembling pulled out of the archives - it's really great. As a matter of fact, check out this video with Dr. Ron Tyler, the director, and Mrs. Stevenson, the president of the board:

Finally, also check out the Hudson River School painting that Crystal Bridges has on loan to the Carter - I haven't even seen it yet - but I hear it's great!

Oh, and if you were taking bets - I have been wearing a bow tie every day, and I think that suits me. Perhaps next week I'll post a photo of the day's bow tie on here...
